YORBA LINDA — Vice President JD Vance spoke at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California, on Thursday, where he promoted his book "Communion" and drew parallels between the treatment of Richard Nixon and Donald Trump by institutions and the media.

Vance stated that the legacy of Richard Nixon is enjoying a bit of a renaissance. He said, "If you look at the story of how the deep state took down Richard Nixon, it's not all that different from what the same groups of people, the same institutions tried to do to Donald Trump in the first Trump administration."

Vance asserted that the Watergate scandal, which led to Nixon's resignation in 1974 during his second term, would not have the same impact today. "If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story," Vance said. "The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy."

Vance also made a comparison involving his own career path, describing a figure as a "young senator, vice president, writes some bestselling books, is hated by the media." He concluded, "It kind of sounds like JD Vance." During the event, Vance also discussed his spiritual journey from atheist to Catholic convert.

Richard Nixon was the 37th president. Donald Trump was impeached twice during his first term. One impeachment stemmed from allegations of abusing his power to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden. The second impeachment followed accusations of inflaming a mob of supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
