WARREN, MICH. — A 17-year-old male from Detroit was charged as an adult with felony murder and other offenses following a crash on June 18, 2026, in Warren, Michigan, that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Remions Washington of Detroit. The charges stem from a police pursuit that began when officers observed occupants of a silver Dodge Ram driving through neighborhoods wearing ski masks.

Warren police officers attempted a traffic stop around 2 a.m. on June 18 at Fairfield and Georgiana streets. The 17-year-old driver fled from police for seven minutes before failing to stop at a red light on Eight Mile Road and striking a vehicle driven by Washington. Washington was taken to a hospital by the Detroit Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead. Five occupants of the Dodge Ram, aged between 11 and 17, fled the vehicle but were later apprehended by officers.

The 17-year-old driver faces charges including felony murder, second-degree murder, fleeing and eluding first-degree causing death, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, and possession with intent to steal a motor vehicle. He was scheduled for arraignment at the 37th District Court at 1:30 p.m. on June 24. The other juvenile occupants will be charged as juveniles with receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, burglary tools possession with intent to steal, and resisting and obstructing.

Warren police commissioner Eric Hawkins stated on June 24 that the pursuit was within department protocols. "This is a profound tragedy that no officer ever wants to see," Hawkins said. "The gravity of this loss is felt deeply by every single one of us." Hawkins added, "I want to be clear about the nature of this incident. We are here today because a 17-year-old murdered Mr. Washington. We are here because of the deliberate, calculated chain of choices made by that individual."
