U.K. — Tina Fey delivered the opening monologue on Saturday Night Live U.K. The American comedian and writer addressed the audience with self-deprecating humor about her British recognition.

"Here in the U.K., you might know me as the teacher from 'Mean Girls,' or you might remember a long time ago when I played Sarah Palin on 'SNL' U.S., or maybe you feel like you recognize me as the lady from the show 'Veep,' and that's fine too," Fey said during her monologue.

Nicola Coughlan, Michael Cera and Graham Norton interrupted Fey's opening monologue on Saturday Night Live U.K. Coughlan asked Fey why an American was hosting Saturday Night Live U.K. rather than a British actor.

"The way it was explained to me was that for this first episode, anyway, how do I put this politely, none of you fuckers would do it. Does that make sense?" Fey responded, using profanity in her explanation.

Fey performed material from British comedy shows and adverts during her monologue, including "Keeping Up Appearances," "Fawlty Towers," "Are You Being Served," "Monty Python," "EastEnders" and a Jet2Holidays advertisement.

Fey joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 1997 and became the show's first female head writer. By 2000, she was performing in sketches and co-anchoring the Weekend Update segment with Jimmy Fallon. Prior to her departure, Fey was the longest-serving Weekend Update anchor. She left Saturday Night Live after the 2005-2006 season to develop 30 Rock. Since her departure, Fey has made numerous guest appearances on Saturday Night Live for her impersonation of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Jamie Dornan is set to host Saturday Night Live U.K. on March 21, 2026. Riz Ahmed is scheduled to host on April 4, 2026.
