MECHANICVILLE, NEW YORK — Six individuals were found dead in an apartment in Mechanicville, New York, on June 23, including Amy Steadman, 64, and Sarah Myers, 44, along with Myers' four children. The children were identified as Harper Harmon, 13; Hudson Harmon, 11; and Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon, both 10. Investigators recovered evidence in the apartment indicating intentional poisoning, including various prescription and over-the-counter medications, according to police.

Police discovered the bodies on Tuesday evening after a neighbor requested a welfare check. Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt stated that officers entered the apartment after building management provided access. "Upon entering the residence, officers located six deceased individuals," Rabbitt said during a June 25 news conference. Rabbitt stated that the family had been dead for an extended period.

Autopsies conducted on Wednesday identified the victims. Police Chief Rabbitt stated that one of the children suffered fatal sharp-force injuries. He also stated that a handwritten note found in the apartment strongly suggests Amy Steadman's involvement in the deaths. Steadman owned the apartment where the bodies were found. Sarah Myers and her children resided in a separate apartment within the same building.

Rabbitt stated there was no evidence to indicate an outside individual was involved in the deaths. "However, final determination regarding responsibility will be made only after all investigative findings, toxicology results, and medical examiner reviews have been completed," he said. The causes and manners of death for all six individuals are awaiting further testing.

Brady Harmon, father of the four children, lives in Utah. Harmon stated that he had not seen his children since 2019. He also stated he had recently reached an agreement for custody of the children from July 1 to September 1. "Hope to hell. Things happen, but nothing like this," Harmon said. "I went from I'm seeing my kids to I'll never see my kids again." Harmon stated he intends to bury his children's bodies in Utah. The children were homeschooled and were not enrolled in public school.
