HOUSTON — The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced plans on June 24, 2026, to construct a new livestock and agricultural complex. The facility is scheduled to open in 2029.

The new complex will span more than 1 million square feet of agricultural facilities and event space along Highway 288. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for late 2026. The organization will maintain its current location at NRG Arena, with some livestock events continuing at the existing Reliant Center or NRG Arena.

The new facilities are designed to host horse show competitions, certain livestock shows, junior and open breeding shows, archery competitions, and agricultural mechanics events. The complex will also accommodate commercial auctions and educational contests. The facilities will feature climate control and support year-round agricultural programming, events, and educational opportunities, including off-season educational programming, committee meetings, fundraisers, auctions, and galas.

Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the organization, said in a media interview: "For nearly a century, this organization has existed to support the students, exhibitors, and families who make this event possible." He stated: "This represents the largest investment in Rodeo history and a profound commitment to the future of our event, educational opportunities, and agriculture." Boleman added: "It's about honoring the trust families place in us when they bring their animals, their students, and their dreams to this show. We are investing in a facility that reflects the importance of that responsibility." More information about the project is scheduled for release in the fall of 2026.
