SAN ANTONIO — Kent Oliver, owner of The Dakota East Side Ice House, announced the closure of the San Antonio venue in a news release. Operations will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026.
The Dakota East Side Ice House is located at 433 S. Hackberry St. The venue will maintain its current operating schedule, open Tuesdays through Sundays, until its final day in August.
Oliver stated that the establishment served as a community gathering space since it first opened in 2018. "More than anything, The Dakota became a safe space where people of any background could come together and feel human," Oliver said. He added that the business was a personal endeavor. "It was never just a business to me — it was a living piece of my heart, and the community shaped what it became," Oliver said.
"We plan to celebrate this place properly and welcome everyone back through the doors at least a few more times," Oliver said. He expressed gratitude to those who supported the venue. "Thank you to every employee, musician, artist, regular, neighbor, dancer, poet, and friend who came through our doors," Oliver said. "You gave this place its soul." The venue was featured on SA Live in 2023.
