Geoff Wilson reposted an AI-generated video and content related to the QAnon conspiracy theory on social media platform X on Wednesday morning. He deleted both posts after being contacted by Guardian Australia.

The AI-generated video, which Wilson reposted from a right-wing nationalist account, depicted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers taking money from white Australians and giving it to recently arrived migrants wearing Islamic face coverings. The video also included imagery of a protest march with signs reading "diversity is not our strength" and "treason." It showed a white family with blond children becoming homeless after leaving their house, which was then occupied by a south Asian family. The source account includes the identifier "Nationalist" and the phrase "White Lives Matter" in its bio.

Wilson, a fund manager and the founder and chair of Wilson Asset Management, included a written statement with the reposted AI-generated video: "We have only just begun. We will stop this insane CGT on all Australians businesses!"

He later said he had not fully checked all sources and content before sharing the material. "Once the inappropriate associations were identified, I immediately removed the two posts," Wilson said. He attributed his posting of the content to a campaign against government changes to capital gains tax. "I posted the content as part of our campaign against the government's damaging CGT changes to Australian businesses," he said.

Wilson stated that he rejected specific forms of prejudice: "I unequivocally reject racism, antisemitism and conspiracy theories of any kind." Prime Minister Anthony Albanese commented on Wilson's actions, stating, "Geoff Wilson has opposed everything my government has done."
