CALGARY — The New Jersey Devils traded defenseman Simon Nemec and forward Maxim Tsyplakov to the Calgary Flames. In exchange, the Devils acquired defenseman Etienne Morin, the No. 35 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and conditional first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.

The conditional first-round picks are top-10 protected. Nemec, a right-handed shooting defenseman, is 22 years old. He was selected by the Devils with the second overall pick in the 2022 draft and made his NHL debut during the 2023-24 season. He has played in 159 NHL games. During the 2025-26 NHL season, Nemec appeared in 68 games, recording 11 goals, 15 assists, and 26 penalty minutes for a total of 26 points.

Nemec has represented Slovakia in international play. He played for Slovakia at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where the team earned a bronze medal. He also participated in the 2022 IIHF World Championship, scoring six points in eight games. Nemec captained Slovakia at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he recorded six points and was named the tournament's MVP. At the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, he recorded two assists in six games, contributing to Slovakia's fourth-place finish.

Tsyplakov has played 126 NHL games, accumulating 12 goals and 27 assists for 39 career points. He previously played for the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils. Tsyplakov joined the Islanders as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and was traded to the Devils during the 2025-26 season, playing 22 games for the team. Before his NHL career, Tsyplakov played 327 games in the KHL for Spartak Moscow, where he recorded 63 goals and 58 assists, totaling 121 points.

Morin, a left-shot defenseman, is 21 years old. He played in the minor leagues during the 2025-26 season. Sunny Mehta is the general manager of the New Jersey Devils.
