U.S. — ADP and the Stanford Digital Economy Lab launched a real-time public tracker called the Canaries Dashboard. The dashboard shows up to 16% fewer jobs in AI-exposed sectors, such as software development, since 2022.

The Canaries Dashboard also shows fewer jobs for workers aged 22 to 25. Maria Black, the CEO of ADP, stated that jobs are being disrupted at the task level. She began her career at ADP in sales in 1997.

"Take a given job and unbundle it into a series of tasks and apply wages to those tasks," Black said. "That is what's going to guide the world of work toward role convergence and reskilling." She emphasized the importance of human intelligence, adding that it involves judgment, context, and perspective. "Don't confuse AI confidence with real intelligence," Black said. "Human intelligence is about judgment, context, and perspective—navigating the gray—and that can only be taught by being out in the world and connecting."

"Transformation can only happen at the front lines," Black said. She added that it is a groundswell, not a top-down initiative. Black also said that culture is the most important thing any company has, especially in heightened innovation and transformation cycles. "Just because you can automate something doesn't mean you should," she said.

Black has served as ADP CEO for three and a half years and is the company's first female CEO. Comparably's 2025 ranking of top CEOs ranked Black as No. 1. ADP employs 67,000 people.
