Sony Pictures released the first trailer for the film "Klara and the Sun." The film is scheduled for theatrical release on October 23, 2026.

Taika Waititi wrote and directed the film, which is based on the novel "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro. The story features Klara, an Artificial Friend powered by solar energy. Waititi discussed his approach to filmmaking, stating, "Sometimes I think you get caught up in, like, 'Oh, people want the same tone as this other thing from eight years ago,' and it's nice to not have to cater to that so much or cater to your own expectations of what you think you want to do."

The cast includes Jenna Ortega as Klara, Mia Tharia as Josie, Amy Adams as Josie's mother, and Natasha Lyonne as a store manager. In the film, the store manager character tells Klara, "Just remember everything you learned and hopefully they'll come to love you like a member of the family or family dog." Rachel House appears as the housekeeper Melania, while Aran Murphy plays Rick and Sophia Bryant-Taukiri plays Sal. Steve Buscemi and Harry Greenwood also appear in the film.

Sony's 3000 Pictures acquired the screen rights to Ishiguro's novel in July 2020. Dahvi Waller was announced as the screenwriter in March 2021. Kazuo Ishiguro serves as an executive producer for the film, while David Heyman, Garrett Basch, and Taika Waititi are producers.
