Houston Texans offensive tackle Tay Ersery secured the starting left tackle position during training camp. This decision followed his performance in the final five games of his rookie season, where he allowed four pressures and zero sacks. In the first 12 games of his rookie season, he allowed 13 pressures and seven sacks.

Ersery was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft out of the University of Minnesota. Bleacher Report analyst Brad Gagnon identified Ersery as a key second-year player for the team.

"The second-round pick struggled often at left tackle for a line that couldn't consistently put it together in front of C.J. Stroud in 2025," Gagnon wrote. "If this offense is going to start pulling its weight for a team that fancies itself a contender, it'll need a big leap forward from one of the most penalized tackles in football last season." The Texans finished last season with 12 wins.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans addressed Ersery's development. "Although he's a second-year player, he's a rookie who came in, played a ton of snaps for us, starting at left tackle," Ryans said. "One thing I've challenged 'Tae' on is just taking more of that vocal leadership approach."

"He has leadership traits, leadership qualities," Ryans said. "I try and empower him to allow those qualities to show a lot of guys around him to feel that leadership that he does have." Ryans noted Ersery's current status. "He's doing a great job so far," he said. "These OTAs he's came back in shape." "He's ready to roll," Ryans said. "He's looking really good." "He'll be in a good spot for us this year." "He just keeps leading by being vocal, not just by what you do on the field," Ryans said.
