NEW YORK — Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will co-chair a joint venture between Intercontinental Exchange and crypto exchange OKX. The companies announced on Monday that the venture will focus on tokenizing assets listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which Intercontinental Exchange owns.

An OKX spokesperson stated that the project aims to provide users with access to tokenized futures and equities. Cuomo will co-chair the initiative with Trabue Bland, Senior Vice President at Intercontinental Exchange. He said he plans to spend the majority of his time overseeing this joint venture.

Cuomo characterized himself as a supporter of blockchain technology, but not necessarily cryptocurrency. He stated, "This is not about crypto." He added, "This is about blockchain and financial technology, and applying blockchain to other assets." Cuomo described the potential for accessing the New York Stock Exchange through a smartphone, seven days a week, noting, "You can virtually walk through the front door of the New York Stock Exchange through your smartphone, and you can do that seven days a week in a way you never could before."

Intercontinental Exchange announced in March that it had invested approximately $200 million into OKX, valuing the crypto exchange at $25 billion. Cuomo has been involved with OKX since 2023, advising the company during a Department of Justice investigation. In 2025, OKX agreed to a $500 million settlement and pleaded guilty to violating anti-money laundering laws, after which it relaunched in the U.S.

Cuomo resigned from the governor's office in 2021 following multiple allegations of sexual harassment, which he has repeatedly denied. Beyond his role in the joint venture, he said he would also work with a few unnamed nonprofits and philanthropies. He did not disclose whether he owns cryptocurrencies but stated he owns multiple asset classes. Regarding a return to politics, he said he has "no plans" but also added, "But never say never."
