LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Wednesday, completing a three-game sweep. Freddie Freeman hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Alex Vesia secured the save for the Dodgers.

Freeman's home run traveled 407 feet to center field off reliever Kevin Kelly, giving the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Earlier in the game, the Dodgers held a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, with RBI singles from Alex Call and Alex Freeland. The Rays then took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning following a series of plays, including a sacrifice fly by Taylor Walls, an RBI single from Yandy Diaz, a fielder's choice groundout by Junior Caminero, and an RBI single from Richie Palacios. Garrett Cleavinger also walked Kyle Tucker with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Shohei Ohtani started as the pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He allowed four runs and five hits in the fifth inning and left the game after pitching six innings. Ohtani allowed seven hits in total, struck out five batters, and walked one. The blister on his right middle finger became bloodied during the game, and his ERA rose to 1.47 after the start. Before the game, Ohtani was dealing with left knee inflammation, and he had allowed seven earned runs in his last two starts. In his only at-bat of the game, Ohtani grounded out on one pitch as a pinch hitter for Miguel Rojas in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Alex Vesia closed out the game for the Dodgers, earning his third save of the season. He struck out Cedric Mullins to end the game in the ninth inning. Vesia walked Austin Slater and intentionally walked Yandy Diaz in the ninth before walking Jonathan Aranda, loading the bases. "Honestly, I threw the slider before and I just felt really good coming out of my hand," Vesia said. "I was leaning on him honestly." Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented on Ohtani's pitching, stating, "I thought the stuff was good." Ohtani said, "Actually, I felt good overall."

Tommy Edman made his season debut for the Dodgers after recovering from ankle surgery. He was hitless in the game but drew one walk. The Dodgers' season record improved to 48 wins and 27 losses.
