HOUSTON — The FIFA Fan Festival Houston will be closed on Monday, June 15. Organizers announced the Monday closure on Sunday evening, citing anticipated severe weather and guidance from public safety officials.

Organizers had temporarily cleared the festival grounds twice on Sunday due to lightning in the area. Officials stated that the festival operates under a weather safety plan that requires guests to leave the venue when lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius. The site can reopen only after 30 consecutive minutes without additional lightning strikes within the eight-mile zone, with the clock restarting after each strike.

"It's our priority to ensure the safety of fans, staff, volunteers, and emergency services personnel," organizers said in a statement. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected across much of Southeast Texas, with isolated areas potentially receiving 5 to 6 inches.

The festival serves as a gathering place for fans during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring live match broadcasts, entertainment, food vendors, and interactive activities. Organizers have not announced whether any additional schedule changes will be necessary later in the week.
