HUMBLE — A Harris County Precinct 4 deputy was shot during a gunfight with a suspect at an apartment complex in Humble on Friday evening. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that require a lengthy recovery.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a man carrying and firing a shotgun at the 15951 Woodland Hills apartment complex. No other residents or bystanders were reported injured.
Law enforcement officers used a SWAT response to breach the barricaded apartment door after the suspect retreated inside. Officers utilized technology to detect movement inside the apartment before deploying CS gas. The suspect, a 38-year-old Hispanic male, then exited the residence and surrendered to authorities.
During the apprehension process, the suspect sustained a dog bite to his leg. He is expected to face criminal charges and be booked into Harris County Jail. Residents were instructed to avoid the area while investigators processed the scene.
