CHATTANOOGA — Signal Centers appointed Heather Hicks as chief executive officer on June 18, 2026. The board unanimously selected Hicks after a national search.
Hicks succeeds Donna McConnico, who served as chief executive officer for 25 years.
Nicole Watson, chair of the CEO Search Committee, said: "We approached this search with tremendous care and intention because we understand the importance of a leadership transition for the future of Signal Centers. We were fortunate to attract outstanding candidates from across the nation, but throughout the process, Heather distinguished herself with her visionary leadership, deep understanding of our mission, and proven ability to create meaningful change. It became clear that she is the right leader to guide Signal Centers into its next era of growth and impact."
Hicks first joined the organization in 2008 as the Strengthening Families Network Coordinator. She previously served as the executive director of Statewide Services, leading the Tennessee Child Care Resource and Referral Network.
"Signal Centers has a remarkable legacy of empowering individuals and families to achieve lifelong independence, and I am deeply honored to serve as its next CEO. Having spent much of my career with this organization, I have witnessed firsthand the difference our work makes in communities across Tennessee. I look forward to partnering with our board, staff, families, and community supporters as we build upon that legacy and expand our impact for generations to come," Hicks said.
No independent assessment of Signal Centers’s claims was available.
