NEW JERSEY — Representative Tom Kean Jr. will return to Congress on June 30 after a medical absence that began in March. He last cast a vote on March 5 and has missed more than 100 votes during his absence.

Kean Jr.'s whereabouts since March 5 have not been publicly disclosed. He stated in late April that he was addressing a personal medical issue. On June 2, he released a campaign statement ahead of a New Jersey Republican primary election for his seat, which concluded hours later.

In his June 2 statement, Kean Jr. said, "Right now I am focused on my recovery and under the advice of healthcare professionals, I will transition from virtual work to in person work within a matter of weeks. At that time I will be completely transparent as to the nature of my medical condition."

Harrison Neely, Kean Jr.'s spokesperson, said, "Congressman Kean is eager to return to in person work on June 30 and resume a full schedule." House Speaker Mike Johnson recently spoke with Kean Jr. Johnson stated he is aware of Kean Jr.'s health issue but declined to disclose specific details. He stated, "What he's dealing with is not very common and not a big thing."

Kean Jr. comes from a family with a history in public service. His father, Tom Kean Sr., served two terms as New Jersey governor. His grandfather served as a U.S. representative, and his great-grandfather served as a U.S. senator.

No independent assessment of Tom Kean Jr.’s claims was available.
