MANVILLE, ALBERTA — Former National Hockey League player and youth hockey coach Kyle Calder died on June 15, 2026, at the age of 47. His daughter, Madison Calder, confirmed his death through an Instagram post.

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings, an organization where Calder coached, stated that he died after a brief illness. A public cause of death has not been disclosed. The Chicago Blackhawks selected him in the fifth round, 130th overall, in the 1997 NHL Draft.

Over ten seasons from 1999 to 2010, Calder played a total of 590 regular season NHL games, scoring 114 goals and 294 points. He also played in 18 playoff games. His career included stints with the Blackhawks from 1999 to 2006, the Philadelphia Flyers from 2006 to 2007, the Detroit Red Wings in 2007, the Los Angeles Kings from 2007 to 2009, and the Anaheim Ducks from 2009 to 2010. He set career highs in the 2005-06 season with 26 goals and 59 points in 79 games.

After his professional playing career, Calder played 27 games for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL during the 2011-12 season before retiring. He began coaching youth hockey teams in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston in 2018, serving as a coach for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings from 2020 to 2022. Calder was a native of Manville, Alberta.

Madison Calder wrote on Instagram, "Dad, there will never ever be enough words in the world to describe how incredibly lucky I was to have you as my dad." Danny Wirtz, representing the Wirtz family and Blackhawks organization, expressed sorrow. "On behalf of the Wirtz family and Chicago Blackhawks organization, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Kyle Calder." Wirtz said.

The National Hockey League Alumni Association also commented on his passing. They stated, "Kyle embodied the values that make our alumni family so special: his loyalty, toughness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those around him."
