LOS ANGELES — A jury convicted David Pearce of two counts of felony murder and of raping seven women who testified during the trial. The charges were connected to the deaths of Christy Giles and Hilda Marcela Cabrales in November 2021.

Giles and Cabrales visited a Hollywood nightclub and an East Los Angeles warehouse party on the night of November 12, 2021. On the morning of November 13, 2021, Jan Cilliers, Christy Giles' husband, tracked her phone to an unfamiliar Los Angeles address. Later that day, at approximately 5 p.m., Giles' phone location moved to a hospital three miles from the previous address.

Two masked men, driving a black Prius without license plates, transported Christy Giles to Southern California Hospital at Culver City, claiming they found her unconscious on a nearby street. Emergency medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival. A friend and emergency contact for Hilda Marcela Cabrales tracked her phone to 8641 West Olympic Boulevard on the same day. Two masked men, also in a black Prius without license plates, brought Cabrales to a hospital with a similar account of finding her unconscious on the street.

Hilda Marcela Cabrales remained in critical condition and did not regain consciousness. Her family authorized the removal of life support two weeks later and also authorized the donation of her organs. Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective Jonathan Vander Lee and a partner visited the residence at 8641 West Olympic Boulevard after receiving reports of the incidents. Investigators identified this residence as the home of David Pearce, who owned a black Prius. Pearce lived at the address with a roommate, Brandt Osborn.

Police arrested David Pearce and Brandt Osborn one month after the incidents in connection with the deaths. Prosecutors charged David Pearce with two counts of felony murder. Brandt Osborn was charged with accessory to murder after the fact for assisting in moving the victims to hospitals. Prosecutors had alleged that David Pearce was a serial rapist. The jury, however, deadlocked on the charges against Brandt Osborn, which resulted in a mistrial. Pearce has not yet been sentenced, and the district attorney has not announced whether a retrial will be pursued for Osborn.
