WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Las Vegas Aces will not celebrate their 2025 WNBA championship at the White House. A spokesperson stated the team did not receive an invitation.
This marks the first time the Aces have not visited the White House after winning a championship in their recent title runs. Following their 2022 WNBA championship, the team met with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. The Aces subsequently met with Harris and Biden after their 2023 WNBA championship.
Visits for NBA and WNBA teams occurred less frequently during the Trump administration. Following the 2016-17 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors declined an invitation. Stephen Curry stated at the time that he would not attend such an event, and Trump later announced he withdrew the invitation for the team. The next three championship teams in the NBA and WNBA also did not receive invitations.
The Toronto Raptors did not receive an invitation from Trump following their championship season, though he stated he considered inviting them. The Washington Mystics also did not receive an invitation from Trump after their 2019 championship.
NBA and WNBA championship teams visited the White House more frequently during Biden's term. Biden invited the Los Angeles Lakers to the White House following an NBA championship, but they did not visit due to COVID-19 protocols and scheduling conflicts. The Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics also celebrated their championships with Biden.
No independent assessment of Las Vegas Aces’s claims was available.
