DALLAS, TEXAS — Rashee Rice was released from Dallas County Jail on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, after serving a 30-day jail sentence. This incarceration stemmed from a violation of his probation terms.

Rice was booked into the facility on May 19 after a positive test for THC. During his time in jail, Rice, who is 26 years old, missed voluntary workouts and mandatory minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The probation violation followed Rice's guilty plea on July 17, 2025, to felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. These charges originated from a multi-vehicle crash on a Texas highway on March 30, 2024, where Rice was driving a speeding vehicle that caused the collision. Following his plea, a judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. Rice was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims of the 2024 crash.

The NFL suspended Rice for the first six games of the 2025 season under its personal conduct policy. Approximately one week before his incarceration, Rice underwent surgery on his right knee. A judge approved a request from Rice's attorneys for him to receive rehabilitation treatment at Parkland Hospital during his jail sentence. Court records indicate that he was permitted to leave the jail periodically to receive medical treatment for his knee.

Upon his release, Rice walked backward to avoid photographs before entering a waiting black SUV. He departed the facility without speaking to reporters.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expects Rice to report to training camp at the end of July. Reid said, "We're moving forward as normal as we go here. When he gets back, we've got to get him caught up in doing what he needs to do, and make sure he gets it." He added, "Life lessons are important, but we're all given chances to learn, and he's in that position now."
