DES MOINES — Zach Johnson won the 2026 Principal Charity Classic at Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 14, 2026. Johnson finished the tournament at 17-under par with a total score of 199, securing a four-stroke victory.

Johnson competed as a rookie on the PGA Tour Champions and was making his first start at the Principal Charity Classic. He shot a 3-under 69 in Friday's opening round, placing him in a tie for 22nd place.

On Saturday, Johnson recorded a 9-under 63, which marked the lowest score of the tournament. During this round, he hit 17 of 18 greens. He entered Sunday's final round tied for the lead at 12-under par with Brett Quigley and Scott Hend.

In the final round on Sunday, he shot a 5-under 67. He made five birdies over an 11-hole stretch and recorded his sixth birdie of the round on the par-4 18th hole to confirm his victory. He won by four strokes despite bogeying the first and 14th holes on Sunday. Richard Green briefly held a solo lead while playing ahead of Johnson, but ultimately tied for second place with Retief Goosen. David Bransdon and Brett Quigley both finished the tournament at 12-under par.

He previously won the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational in March. He has recorded seven top-4 finishes in eight PGA Tour Champions starts. "I did everything pretty solid. I drove it great, hit a lot of crisp iron shots." Johnson said.

He is an Iowa City, Iowa, native and attended Drake University. He last played at Wakonda Club in 1998 during a college practice round. "Given this week and all that it entails being back home, then literally in a place I used to live, I felt like I had already won before I teed off." Johnson said.

He is a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour, having won the Masters in 2007 and the British Open in 2015. He was ranked as high as No. 6 in the world in 2014. Manhattan Deli in Des Moines named a sandwich after him based on his college-era order.
