CUPERTINO — Apple announced updates for its HomeKit Secure Video service at WWDC, which include the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). These updates will generate descriptive text summaries for camera alerts and enable natural-language search queries for recorded camera footage. The public release of these updates is scheduled for the fall.
The AI-generated text descriptions will appear with recorded video clips within the application interface. HomeKit Secure Video will also support 2K and 4K video resolution streams, though these higher resolution features are not yet available in the current developer beta.
Apple updated the HomeKit Secure Video infrastructure to improve loading speeds for both recorded clips and live streams. This improvement also resolved disconnection issues for at least one connected outdoor camera. The updated application now allows users to view more than two live camera streams simultaneously when they are away from home. Standard motion alerts will continue to be sent in addition to the new AI descriptions.
The application interface will sequence recorded clips chronologically rather than grouping them by individual camera. Selecting a video clip in the updated application will display simultaneous footage from other cameras recorded at the same time. Apple stated that the artificial intelligence will combine footage from multiple cameras into single clips based on correlated activities. The new HomeKit features are included in the iOS 27 and tvOS 27 developer betas, though the current developer beta version experiences occasional application crashes.
No independent assessment of Apple HomeKit Secure Video’s claims was available.
