Houston police responded to Discovery Green at approximately 9:23 p.m. on a Saturday. Officers found an estimated 500 to 600 juveniles and adults present at the location.

Officers from the Downtown Division and Patrol Support Division responded to the scene. Captains coordinated additional personnel via telephone as police focused on preventing the crowd from dispersing into other areas, including the nearby FIFA Fan Fest. A second large crowd gathered across the street from the park, and multiple shots were fired from that location.

Police officers ran toward the source of the gunfire. A second round of shots was fired approximately 10 to 15 minutes after the first. More than 100 police units responded to assist with the scene, with patrol units from stations across the city requested due to the size of the crowd.

Law enforcement detained one juvenile male and one adult male. Both individuals were found to be in possession of firearms and were located in the immediate area where the gunfire occurred. Officers remained on location for several hours to disperse the crowd, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
