AcuRite delayed the planned May 30 shutdown of the My AcuRite companion app. AcuRite has not announced a new date to retire the My AcuRite platform.
The delay followed user complaints regarding feature gaps and usability issues in the replacement application, AcuRite NOW. AcuRite vice president of product development Jeff Bovee said, "The transition from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW, which AcuRite previously set for May 30, has raised serious questions and concerns among many long-time users."
AcuRite NOW, which launched in June 2025, is available on iOS and Android operating systems. Users reported that AcuRite NOW initially lacked the ability to rename multiple temperature sensors, report temperatures in non-integers, and provide an online dashboard option. Users also noted a poor layout and experienced issues uploading data to weather sites.
Bovee noted, "Many customers have pointed out AcuRite NOW's shortfalls compared to My AcuRite." AcuRite NOW supports third-party smart gadgets and Tuya's SmartLife IoT ecosystem. For example, AcuRite NOW charges a subscription fee to share data with Weather Underground, a feature My AcuRite provided for free.
He said, "Before shuttering the app, AcuRite is trying to improve AcuRite NOW's account setup, device onboarding, station connectivity, data visibility, app usability, notifications, and the overall reliability of the connected experience." A web-based dashboard option for AcuRite NOW is also in development.
"The planned web experience is intended to be part of the AcuRite NOW platform and to include new features rather than simply duplicate the legacy My AcuRite dashboard," he said. "For years our users lamented the lack of updates to the My AcuRite website and app, and our hands were tied on how to make those improvements and updates. With the new AcuRite NOW app, the opportunities are wide open on how we can develop and improve the product, ensuring future sustainability for our users."
He said, "The legacy platform still needs to be retired." He added, "When a new shutdown date is planned, AcuRite will communicate it clearly and provide users with time to complete their transition from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW."
