KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — Steven Spielberg directed the film "Disclosure Day." It opened in theaters in Israel. The film centers on a cybersecurity expert exposing evidence of extraterrestrial visits to Earth while evading a cover-up by the private agency Wardex.

The film focuses on Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O'Connor, a cybersecurity expert who steals data proving extraterrestrials have visited Earth. A non-government agency named Wardex attempts to conceal this evidence. Wardex, which stands for Waived Reporting, Development, and Extraction, is led by technology executive Noah Scanlon, played by Colin Firth.

Daniel Kellner flees with his girlfriend Jane, played by Eve Hewson, carrying a device that contains the stolen evidence. A former Wardex employee, Hugo Wakefield, played by Colman Domingo, assists Kellner in evading capture. Daniel Kellner states in the film, "The truth belongs to eight billion people."

The film also features Margaret Fairchild, played by Emily Blunt, a meteorologist working in Kansas City, Missouri. Fairchild develops mind-reading abilities and begins speaking Russian after a cardinal collides with her window. She later collapses during a televised appearance after emitting clicking noises. Margaret Fairchild's partner is Jackson, played by Wyatt Russell.

Daniel Kellner and Margaret Fairchild attempt to locate each other during the film to publicly release information regarding extraterrestrial visits dating to a 1949 incident in Roswell. The film depicts a geopolitical standoff that involves the U.S. and North Korea over a potential nuclear conflict. David Koepp co-wrote the screenplay for "Disclosure Day."

Spielberg has directed 37 films, with six of them including extraterrestrials in their plots. He directed "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in 1977, which featured a character named Roy Neary, played by Richard Dreyfuss, who enters a secure meeting between government officials and extraterrestrials. The extraterrestrials in this film communicate using musical notes. Spielberg also directed "E.T. the Extraterrestrial" in 1982, which generated $797 million in global box office revenue. The story follows a stranded extraterrestrial protected by suburban child Elliott, played by Henry Thomas, while government agents pursue the extraterrestrial for examination. "A.I. Artificial Intelligence," directed by Spielberg in 2001, features advanced extraterrestrials arriving on Earth following the extinction of humanity in its epilogue. He also directed "War of the Worlds" in 2005, an adaptation of a novel by H.G. Wells, and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in 2008, which involved the discovery of an extraterrestrial skull in South America. Spielberg will turn 80 years old in December. A quarter of his directed films belong to the fantasy and science fiction genres.
