CAROLINA — The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final tonight, following a dominant playoff run that has produced a 12-1 record. Carolina swept both the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers in the first two rounds before overcoming an early deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals, losing Game 1 to the Montreal Canadiens but winning the next four games to advance.

The Hurricanes’ success has been fueled in part by their second line of Taylor Hall, Logan Stankoven, and Jackson Blake, which has combined for 19 goals and 24 assists in 13 playoff games. Hall, a former MVP award winner, has helped anchor a versatile and high-scoring forward group that has consistently generated offense throughout the postseason.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen has provided stability in net for Carolina, posting a 1.41 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage during the 2024 playoffs. His performance has been a key factor in the team’s ability to limit opponents’ scoring chances and maintain control in tight contests.

Their opponent, the Vegas Golden Knights, are the defending Stanley Cup champions after winning the title in 2023. Vegas made changes late in the 2023-24 season, firing head coach Bruce Cassidy and replacing him with John Tortorella. The Golden Knights also acquired Mitch Marner in a sign-and-trade deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Marner has recorded 7 goals and 14 assists in the 2024 postseason, leading the NHL with 21 points. His offensive production has been central to Vegas’s return to the Stanley Cup Final as they seek to become the first team to win back-to-back championships since the Tampa Bay Lightning won in 2020 and 2021.
