SPRING — Overnight thunderstorms moved across the Houston area and caused scattered damage in parts of north Harris County on Wednesday morning. A massive tree fell across a neighborhood street in the Inverness Forest neighborhood near Doral Street and landed on a white pickup truck parked outside a home.

The pickup truck appeared heavily damaged, with the roof dented and doors damaged. Another tree toppled into the middle of the street nearby. It was not immediately clear whether the tree fell because of lightning or strong winds from the storms.

Resident Jamie Collins said, "About 2:30 (a.m.), my son screamed and ran in to jump in bed with me and looked out the window and found this." Collins added, "Luckily the tree fell that way and not that way because that’s where I was sleeping with my daughter." Neighbor Will Marrs said, "We woke up to hearing real loud whistling noise and thunder," and added, "And we could hear things cracking and breaking around us." Deevon Rahming described the pickup as "a total loss" and reported, "The good news in all of this is that we're not seeing too much extensive damage."

Neighbors spent much of Wednesday morning dragging branches, cutting debris, and clearing streets after powerful winds uprooted multiple trees. CenterPoint Energy crews were working in the neighborhood Wednesday morning as restoration efforts continued.

According to CenterPoint Energy, more than 23,000 customers were without power at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning following the overnight storms. By 11:15 a.m., the number of customers without power was down to just over 4,500.
