HOUSTON — A crash involving two jackknifed big rigs shut down all inbound lanes of the eastbound 610 North Loop before McCarty Street in Houston early Wednesday morning. Houston TranStar verified the incident at 3:52 a.m.

The crash was reported on the eastbound side of the North Loop at McCarty Street and U.S. 90 Alternate. Video from the scene showed that one of the trucks was a FedEx vehicle and the other was a tanker.

The shutdown of all inbound lanes on the eastbound 610 North Loop affected traffic heading into downtown Houston. Traffic backups were building early Wednesday morning for drivers making the inbound commute.

Overnight storms moved through the Houston area before the crash occurred. Wet road conditions were present in the area at the time the two big rigs jackknifed on the eastbound 610 North Loop near McCarty Street.

Houston TranStar, which monitors regional traffic and roadway conditions, logged the crash at 3:52 a.m. The agency tracks incidents across the Houston freeway network and reported the lane closures on the eastbound side of the North Loop at the McCarty Street and U.S. 90 Alternate location. Drivers heading eastbound on the 610 North Loop encountered delays as a result of the lane closures caused by the two jackknifed trucks.
