WIGGINS, MISSISSIPPI — Five people were killed when a Canadian Pacific Kansas City freight train collided with a van at a railroad crossing in rural Mississippi, according to officials. The crash occurred near the town of Wiggins, about 45 miles northwest of Biloxi.

All five people killed in the collision were in the van, Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry said. The lone surviving passenger in the van, a 23-year-old woman, was flown to a hospital, according to Flurry.

No one aboard the train was reported injured, according to officials. Canadian Pacific Kansas City confirmed that its freight train collided with a vehicle at a railroad crossing.

The Stone County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, according to Canadian Pacific Kansas City. "Our most sincere condolences go out to the families of the victims of this tragedy," the company said.
