WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence released documents on June 19, 2026, alleging that Dr. Anthony Fauci manipulated intelligence assessments regarding the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified before the U.S. House Intelligence Committee on worldwide threats on March 19, 2026, in Washington, D.C. In her testimony and subsequent statements, she accused Dr. Fauci of suppressing information about the origin of the pandemic and politicizing leadership within the intelligence community to suppress information about U.S. funding of bat coronavirus research prior to the outbreak.

Gabbard alleged that Dr. Fauci lied under oath to Congress in 2024 concerning his knowledge of discussions with intelligence officials about research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The released documents state that the Wuhan Institute of Virology participated in research into the risk of bat-to-human transmission of coronavirus, which was conducted in part to develop interventions to prevent the spread of such viruses.

In a video statement posted online, Gabbard alleged that Dr. Fauci and his associates pressured the intelligence community to promote the narrative that COVID-19 originated from a natural animal source. "Fauci orchestrated a deliberate attempt to cover up the truth," Gabbard said. She added, "He pushed lies, disinformation, and censorship." In the same statement, she said, "Americans deserve transparency, truth, and accountability."

Gabbard stated that her office received testimony from whistleblowers within the intelligence community who reportedly faced threats and retaliation. One contractor alleged they were fired days after coming forward to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as a whistleblower. Additionally, intelligence analysts reported that efforts were made to undermine the whistleblower process by attempting to remove the anonymity of complainants. Gabbard announced her resignation one month prior to June 21, 2026, citing personal reasons, and formally left the position on June 20, 2026.
